ABC Credit Coin (信用币): Uses and How It Worked

Agricultural Bank of China’s Credit Coin (信用币) was described by the bank as a virtual credit account: customers could use approved credit for purchases, installments and certain transfers. It was not a balance of reward points to exchange for gifts.

The details below come from Agricultural Bank of China’s 2017 fintech article. They explain the product’s documented operation at that time. The continued availability of that page does not establish that applications, payment options or fees are unchanged today.

How the account was opened and used

  1. Apply through the bank. The 2017 description listed ABC’s mobile banking app and bank branches as application channels for eligible individual customers. This was a credit-account application, not a points-redemption process.
  2. Activate the account. ABC described the product as available for immediate use after opening. That wording was the bank’s product description, not a guarantee that every applicant would qualify.
  3. Bind it for mobile transactions. After activation, the bank said customers could bind the account to a mobile phone for online transactions. It also described transaction-limit settings and a one-click card lock.
  4. Use the functions enabled for the account. Purchases, installments and transfers were distinct uses. A purchase facility did not by itself mean that cash-transfer or cash-installment functions had been enabled.

What Credit Coin could pay for

ABC said Credit Coin used a standard credit-card number and its own or other banks’ acquiring networks for domestic online and offline consumption. The page described UnionPay-standard transactions, including card-present and card-not-present transactions. It did not provide a current list of supported wallets, merchants or devices.

The bank also listed installment use and mentioned a related installment product called 即分信用金. If transfer or cash-installment functions were enabled, customers could link their own debit-card account and transfer funds within the approved credit limit. This was access to credit under the account’s conditions; it was not a conversion rate between “coins” and cash rewards.

Repayment, fees and limits

The historical page described repayment channels but did not set out an account-specific repayment schedule or a complete fee and interest table. It therefore cannot establish that a particular purchase, installment or transfer is free of interest or fees.

If you already have an account, check its current agreement and statement for the amount due, repayment date, available credit and the charges for the transaction you intend to make. Do not apply the terms of an ordinary points program to borrowed funds.

If you want to use Credit Coin now

Check ABC’s official app or contact the bank to confirm whether the product is available to you and which functions your account supports. Ask specifically about activation, supported payment methods, installment or transfer eligibility, and the applicable charges. An old tutorial’s menu labels or advertised limit may not match your account.

If the balance you see is labelled 积分 (points), first confirm that you are looking at the same product. The bank’s 2017 description of 信用币 does not supply redemption rules for credit-card points or a separate promotional balance.
